The line graph from a report shows six types of energy consumption in the United States between 1980 and 2030. Overall, petrol and oil stand out since it has the largest number in history and projections.
From 1980 to 1990, although petrol and oil was the biggest number with no less than 30 quadrillion units, it had a wildly fluctuated. Coal increased steadily between about 16 quadrillion units to 18 quadrillion units. In addition, nuclear power, solar/wind power, and hydropower experienced a similar trend, climbing from 4 to nearly 5 quadrillion units. Between 1990 and 2019, the highest number was petrol and oil, achieving around 43 quadrillion units in 2019. Sometimes coal was bigger than natural gas, and sometimes they had the opposite situation. However, in 2019, coal with approximately 24 quadrillion units was larger than natural gas with 23 quadrillion units. Nuclear grew slightly from 5 to 7 quadrillion units, and hydropower became the smallest number in 2019, which was 3 quadrillion units.
In the projections, petrol and oil will experience a dramatic increase from 43 in 2020 to nearly 50 quadrillion units in 2030. Coal will also increase from 25 quadrillion units to about 30 quadrillion units. Moreover, nuclear, solar/wind and hydropower will remain stable and none of them will grow more than 2 quadrillion units.
