IELTS Task 2 Writing (Question)

Hi

I would like to know if this question is meaningful.

Students perform better in school when they are rewarded rather than punished. To what extent do you agree or disagree? Discuss both views and give your own opinion.

My view:

I think it is not, as a student is not rewarded or punished for anything or everything he or she does.

In other words, a student cannot be rewarded for his late coming and punished for scoring the first mark in a test.
