IELTS TASK 2: UNIVERSITY OR VOCATIONAL SCHOOLS?

Too much emphasis is placed on going to university for academic study. People should be encouraged to do vocational training, because there is a lack of qualified tradespeople such as electricians or plumbers. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

In recent studies, there has been a potential bias towards enrolling in university in high school students. While it is reasonable to assume that higher salary could be earned by those with white-collar, vocational schools should be put into consideration as following advantages.

Graduating from trade schools is generally associated with guarantee of successful future. Obviously, there is a link between the development of economy and high demand of skilled workers for production lines and service business. Therefore, it is likely that more job opportunities are offered for graduates from career schools. This results in a positive correlation between unemployment rate and crime rate, which are on the decrease. Interestingly, citizens’ safety can also be secured.

Another assertion is the contribution of the sufficient manual workers to the balance between two types of manpower: white-collar workers and blue-collar workers. Evidently, trade workers in the factory play a pivotal role as same as white-collar ones in the office. Unless qualified trades people are adequate, economic degradation will be an inexorable consequence due to the lack of equipment maintenance and cutting-edge machines. Taken together, management to encourage students going to vocational schools should therefore be introduced for the efficient operation of factories and enterprises.

In conclusion, notwithstanding the severe shortage of manual workers in labor markets, government should implement several measures aiming at the increase in the number of youth taking part in trade schools. As a result, economics will be maintained in good shape.
