IELTS TASK 2: The consequences and solutions for mass migration.

The migration of people from farming areas to municipalities to work can create severe difficulties in both places. What are the serious problems? What measures can be taken to solve these problems?

Over the past decades, numerous people have migrated from the countryside to urban cities in search of job opportunities. Although this trend can have severe economic and social ramifications in both places, it can be reduced to some extent by improving the living standards in rural areas.

First and foremost, the migration of people from farming areas to municipalities can potentially have harmful economic effects. When farmers move to more industrialized areas to work, their arrival will intensify competition in the job market, making it harder for pre-existing city dwellers to get well-paid jobs. In addition to this, house prices will be driven up due to the discrepancy between the number of houses available and the number of people living there.

Secondly, by allowing their people to leave the countryside and acculturate to urban life, local communities may run the risk of losing their cultural identities. Many custom practices and local languages have been extinct due to the assimilation of indigenous people into the urban culture.

To combat this, governments should bring in policies that help raise the standards of living in agricultural areas. For instance, they can build new infrastructure and facilities in order to provide farmers with agricultural support services. They can also make farming a more profitable activity. By doing so, not only can they encourage farmers to stay, but they can also attract a great deal of investment to promote rural development.

In conclusion, there is an ongoing trend of people migrating from agricultural areas to industrialized ones, which presents serious problems to both the economy as well as the local culture. However, governments can alleviate the problems by investing in rural development.
