It is observed that in many countries not enough students choose to study science subject. What are causes? And what will be effects on society?

Science subjects have not gain in popularity with students in many nations. Reasons for this vary, and this trend has brought about negative impacts on society.

There are several reasons why students do not opt for science subjects. Firstly, science subjects are cognitively demanding. It is quite challenging for students to soak up the in-depth knowledge of science. In addition to learners’ mindset, they need to devote a large amount of time and sheer perseverance for comprehension and scientific attainments. Secondly, there are not many job opportunities for graduates. Students find it hard to secure a good job because job vacancies are not widely available for students in major of science. In merging countries, for instance, there is a huge demand in economics fields. Thus, students have a preference for studying economic-related fields in search of job.

These aforementioned reasons are contributing factors in unbalanced workforce in contemporary society. This means that there is a gargantuan surplus of economists or lawyers, whereas there are not enough engineers or researchers to work in laboratories. The insufficient number of researchers causes lack of human resources in scientific fields, which makes it difficult to design new inventions. Take computers for example. A group of engineers in America together studied day in day out to devise computers that are beneficial to a variety of fields such as economy and education. Without such inventions and researchers’ tenacity, it would be less likely to be transformative to the public’s life and work.

In conclusion, not many students study science subjects because of several reasons, and this can cause detrimental effects on society.
