IELTS TASK 2 (Recycling Laws)

Some people claim that not enough of the waste from homes is recycled. They say that the only way to increase recycling is for governments to make it a legal requirement.
To what extent do you think laws are needed to make people recycle more of their waste?

In the era of time-saving, people seem not to try to recycle all of their house waste and some people think that governments must be responsible for this. Personally, governments should issue effective measures rather than recycling laws.

On the one hand, it is vital to raise people’s awareness with a recycling campaign that makes them understand the present recycling state and persuade them to take action. Governments could spread this campaign through education and social media. For instance, teaching recycling knowledge and ways and giving actual activities for students are considerable methods, which helps the next generation realize the essential part of protecting the environment to the society. Also, this should be informed homeowners by advertisement in the social network or other means because they directly handle their house’s trash.

On the other hand, it is significant for governments to introduce stricter regulations for companies that produce packing household products which use a lot of packages. Thus, they would consider to reduce packages and pay more attention to the environment. Moreover, organizations and governments can corporate to make efficient methods in this problem. For example, both can invest more money in recycling facilities which include individual and large scale facilities to process waste better that make the recycling process easier for people to join in.

Overall, issuing recycling laws is not a feasibility way to make people recycle more of their waste. Therefore, governments should focus on other measures that make people understand the problem and voluntarily take part in the campaign.
