IELTS Task 2. Please help with corrections.

Governments should spend money on railways rather than roads.

To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement?

It is said that governments should invest in building railways instead of roads. I completely agree with this statement and the below essay will explain further.

To begin with, compared to smaller vehicles like cars and motorcycles, trains are more convenient for the environment because cause less pollution. For example, when a large family have multiple cars and use it to get to work everyday, the amount of pollution that family creates is way more than another similarly large family that take the train everyday. For this reason, investing in railway development is better choice for any country.

Another factor to consider is that the cost of traveling by train is cheaper than traveling by car. It is true that trains consume much more fuel than cars, but they carry a lot more passengers. For instance, driving to a city couple hours away might take fuel cost of about forty dollars, however, taking the train may cost about twenty dollars, therefore it is obvious that traveling by train is cheaper.

Finally, the traffic on the roads are very heavy especially during rush hours when people are heading home or to work. The train takes the same duration no matter the time of the day, but when it comes to cars, there are certain peak hours that the traffic is heavy and travelling can be hectic. Because of this, it is preferred that there are more railways than roads.

In conclusion, I believe that building more railways will be an advantage especially for countries with large population, there will be less pollution, people will save money on travelling and they will travel faster.
