1. Some people think governments should spend money on faster means of public transport. However, others think money should be spend on other priorities such as the environment. Discuss both these views and give your opinion.

Some people believe that money should be expended on faster means of transport while other people think that money should be spent on other priorities such as the environment. I agree with the latter because of following reasons:

Governments should spend money on protecting the environment rather than on faster means of public transportation because the environmental pollution is damaging people’ s lives and this problems must be resolved as quickly as possible. In fact, environmental pollution causes many detrimental effects on people life such as air pollution causing lung diseases or global warming causing melting of the polar ice caps which results in sea levels rising. Therefore, If governments use money to improve the environmental quality, it will assist people reduce pollution, improving public health and prolonging the duration of the Earth’s life expectancy.

Other people who favor spending money on faster means of public transport over on the environment can argue that protecting the environment needs a lot of money whereas not only is investing money in faster means of public transport cheaper but also it can assist people save time when traveling and even reduce air pollution. They claim that with shorter traveling time, people can spend more time on other activities such as entertaining and doing exercises. They also think that using more public transport will reduce emissions rather than using private vehicles, which leads to reducing the air pollution.

However, even if this were true, any supposed benefits in saving time and reducing air pollution could only be slight, and the consequent saving time not significant at all when compared to the long-term benefits of spending money on protecting the environment. For example, factories produce emissions and exhaust fumes which are main causes of air pollution. Hence, it is very hard to reduce the air pollution significantly if using public transport.

In conclusion, governments should expend money on other priorities especially the environment instead of spending on faster means of public transport. They should invest money in producing environmentally friendly productions or renewable energy sources such as solar, wind or water power.
