1. Sports is becoming a business with high income for professionals and more companies have been involved in this business financially and in other ways. Is this a positive or negative development?

Nowadays, sports is becoming a lucrative business which more enterprises invest in and bring athletes high salaries. In my opinion, this is a positive development which has good impacts on athletes as well as sports business.

First, this development is positive because it assists people to create the best conditions for athletes. if more companies sponsor and invest in buying modern sports equipment and technology, athletes can achieve the highest level of performance and mitigate the risk of being wounded when practicing and in competitions. This leads to them gaining better performance, winning more medals and breaking more records. For example, the USA, the most wealthy country on the globe, spending a lot of money on sports, also has won the most medals at the Olympic Games.

Second, sports business with high income for athletes and the financial support from many companies is positive because higher income can appeal to more people participating in sport. Since, athletes are often put in danger of injury and a sport career many only lasts ten years, there is not many people interested in being an athlete. Therefore, with a higher salary, governments can draw and encourage more people to take part in sport and play sport, which results in increasing the number of talented athletes and a healthy lifestyle for citizens.

Other people who is opposed to this trend is positive can argue that high income and financial awards can lure athletes into trying to win at any cost. They claim that some athletes use illegal performance-enhancing drugs such as Doping in order to increase their performance. However, these people overlook the fact that before taking part competitions, athletes must be checked. They will not be allowed to take part in these competitions if they are detected using Doping. Therefore most athletes will not take risks.

In conclusion, sport can benefit a great deal from becoming a business as it will help to improve the popularity of playing sport and leading a healthy lifestyle, while professional athletes will have more financial incentives to improve their performance.
