IELTS TASK 2: Parents vs School in teaching children to be good member of society

Hi, I've just finished this IELTS task 2, please help me correct it. Thank you very much.

Topic: Some people think that parents should teach children how to be good members of society. Others, however, believe that school is the place to learn this

Discuss both these views and give your own opinion

People have differing views with regard to the question of who should teach children to be good citizens. In my view, parents and teachers are responsible for forming good citizenship in children altogether.

On the one hand, parents play a major role in teaching children to be good members of society. Children spend most of the time with parents, so they are strongly influenced by the way fathers and mothers conduct and treat others. This means such etiquettes like courtesy and respect can be passed on to children if parents express good-manners to their offsprings. For example, please, thank you and excuse me are three simple manners infants can learn if they are frequently encouraged to say by family members. Parents are better at giving guidance as well because they can detect children’s misbehavior and prevent them from misconducting.

On the other hand, there are several reasons why children should learn how to be good citizens at school. Firstly, school is a place where children learn social interactions which cannot be achieved at home through class activities with their teachers and other peers. Secondly, teachers provide children with Ethics lesson that contributes to fundamental character development such as self-discipline and responsibility. Finally, underprivileged children, especially those whose parents lack sufficient time and care, are able to become model citizens under the proper instructions of teachers.

In conclusion, while parents can help to create children’s sense of good citizen, I believe that school should not be excluded from such an important task.
