IELTS TASK 2: MUSEUM

Topic 7: Some people claim that public museums and art galleries will not be needed because people can see historical objects and works of art by using a computer. Agree/ Disagree?

In this day and age, the Internet is gaining its popularity more than ever and the practice of digitalization is so prevalent that even the pieces of art and historical artefacts only represented in museums and art galleries before now can be found with ease in the virtual world. Some people think that soon there will be a shift away from the physical museums and galleries and I strongly believe this notion is seriously ill-founded for some reasons.

The first one is that the collection of art and historical art in such places are often exhibited in keeping with the surrounding and therefore, provoke strong emotional feelings and deliver us an unforgettable experience. As the decoration of a museum or a gallery, together with the lighting is designed in a special way that it creates a historical ambience which can not be found in the virtual one. Secondly, it still plays a key and indispensable role as tourist attractions and educational places. Annually, a lot of people go to these sites not just for amusement but for the attainment of knowledge as well. People who have interest in art and history, especially students, can have a precious opportunity to observe at close quarters the masterpieces and ancient valuables of humanity that have existed for a long time and at the same time peerless. Public museums and art galleries are, therefore, irreplaceable.

Some argue that the Internet eliminates a real museums’ limitation, which is the lack of information availability to satisfy visitors’ thirst for knowledge. With just a few clicks, we find a bunch of data from various websites, however, there is nearly no evidence that they are credible and verified so certainly there is misleading information somewhere. The next thing advocates of virtuality can say is that a non-physical one is convenient and at the same time saves the extravagant cost of the establishment of a new one. However, museums and art galleries are those amongst attracting places that have a large appeal to foreigners and therefore, contribute significantly to the local economy and the government's revenue as well.

In conclusion, I totally disagree with some statements that there will be no need for the public museums and believe that it outdoes ones on computers.

Please give me some advice ^^

Thanks a lot!!!
