[Ielts task 2] Many university students live with their families while others need to live to live away from home because their universities are in different places. What are the advantages and disadvantages both situations.

Whether or not to find an accommodation far away from home when going on tertiary education sometimes puts many students in quandary. While some choose to stay in their own home with their family, others opt for a far-away accommodation due to the distance between home and university. In this essay, I will discuss the pros and cons of both cases.

First, students will be taken care of by parents and elders in the family if they live with them. Students can get rid of daily pressure from peers and studies as they can confide in and express their emotions to family members. They always have their family to dump on whenever they are in a trouble. However, if students have an extended family, sometimes they cannot focus on their study because they may be disturbed by family members. For instance, their siblings may invite them to try a new game, thereby preventing them from studying.

The plus side of living in the vicinity of universities is that students will never be tardy and they can attend the lecture in the nick of time. Students will not have to be hustle having breakfast or getting dressed up, which can be of great convenience to them. On the minus side, students may not integrate with the deep-rooted traditions of the new neighborhood and this can be the catalyst of their homesickness. Hence, the problem of feeling lonely and cultural shock may lead to students’ underachievement at the university.

In conclusion, living with families and staying apart can have their benefits and drawbacks. Students should consider carefully before deciding whether or not to live apart from their families.
