IELTS TASK 2: Languages die out

Every year several languages die out. Some people think that this is not important because life will be easier if there are fewer languages in the world. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this opinion.

The past 50 years have seen a considerable decrease in the number of languages all around world. Some people believe that it is not necessary because fewer languages will make life become easier. However, I would argue that its drawbacks outweigh benefits. The reasons for this are as follows

Firstly, many uncovered parts of history are not deciphered without the maintenance of the world’ s languages. It is an irrefutable fact that traditional myths and cultures are written or documented in the minority language. It is, therefore, important to observe languages which are on the verge of disappearance for the sake of human exploration and science. For instance, scientists exploring some fossils in one area, they have to use vernacular languages to request help from local people.

Secondly and more importantly, though, the inexistence of some languages would destroy the social relationship. As an inevitable change of life, people of the tribe have been accepting international languages with a view to developing their education and lifestyles. In many cases, affecting remarkedly from languages from other nations, people would be adapted to be a part of new society. This integration might weaken the interaction between humans in the former society.

By way of conclusion, I believe that this issue is likely to become even more significant in the future as the number of languages in the world keeps declining. Thus, it demands out futher consideration.
