It has been much debate about which subjects are more beneficial to teach students in school - history or practical subjects such as science and technology. While there are advantages to learning history, I would argue that science and technology are more crucial for students to succeed in present and future times.
There are several benefits for students to study history. First, it can help them to learn from the past, that is, what has been done, what worked, what did not. By being aware of these matters, students, students are able to make further developments based on existing knowledge and resources, rather than re-inventing the wheel. Moreover, studying history gives students insights into the past events, cultures, and how their countries have evolved with time. These could result in students’ a better understanding of who they are.
However, I believe that studying subjects like science and technology is more important for some reasons. As young people nowadays grow up and live in an advanced world surrounded by science and technology, it is essential for them to be scientifically and technologically literate. Learning science and technology also helps students to develop critical thinking, problem-solving, decision-making skills which are integral to every aspect of their education and life. Furthermore, a large number of jobs in the future will relate to science and technology to help develop, and improve living conditions. Thus, if students are well-equipped with knowledge and skills in these fields, they will be more employable when finishing school.
In conclusion, while there are some good points of studying history, I think that science and technology subjects are more vital for students to live and work successfully now and in the coming years.
