Ielts task 2: food waste

Every day, millions of tons of food are wasted all over the world. Why do you think this is happening? And how can we solve this problem.

In today's world, there are a large amount of food wasted in many places. Reasons for this vary, and steps need to be taken to tackle this problem.

There are several reasons that explain why food waste is now becoming more common. First, advanced technology in agriculture allow producers to produce more food than the whole human could eat. This may result in the fact that many supermarkets refuse to sell foodstuffs that are wrong sizes and shapes even if they are perfectly edible. As a consequence, a large amount of food ends up in landfill sites. Second, the mass production in the food industry to meet the population's need means that the price of food has been becoming cheaper and more affordable to the public. Thus, they take food for granted and do not feel the need to save the leftovers for the next meals. This scraps often go to waste as a result.

However, this problem is not intractable. The first solution would be that the government should make food more costly to buy. This can be done by increasing the price of food products or imposing tax on the food industry. As a result, the amount of food could be reduced significantly. Another remedy is to launch campaigns to raise public awareness of food waste on the environment and set up voluntary groups to go to hotels and restaurants in order to collect the leftovers to distribute to the poor who are in need.

In conclusion, millions of tons of food waste is attractable to several factors, and feasible solutions should be produced early to curb the large amount of food waste.
