In recent years, the family structure has changed, as well as family roles. What are the changes occurring? Do you think these changes are positive or negative?
It is clear that the structure of family and the funtion of family members have been changing in quite a discernible way in recent years. There are two main changes, and these result in some possitive consequences
There are two principle changes happening around the world.First, the number of family members in a family has been changing clearly in recent years. It is clear that nuclear family type, which only has parents and their children, has been superseding the extended family one, which includes at least three generations in a home, especially in developing countries. Second, role of breadwinners is now quite equally in both genders, including both developed and developing countries. For example, about a decade ago, people in Japan still think that a husband is the only person in a family earn money and is considered the breadwinner while women only have responsibilities to take care of children and do household chores. Howerver, a growing number of Japanese women who have children have been entering the workforce in recent years.
it is true that these changes would bring some benefits to family members. First, if each generations lives in their own houses, this is conducive to an decrease in needless conflic among family members due to the generation gap. This might bring the comfortable in normal life and partly strengthen the close-knit family ties. Second, if both mother and father in a family enter the workforce, the incomes in a family increase and this can ease off the financial burden on the husband. It is true that a stable source of finance is often considered a foundation of happiness of a family.
In conclusion, the changes in structure and function of family is considered possitively in some aspects.
