IELTS Task 2 - Essay About paying celebrities too much

You should spend about 40 minutes on this task. Write about the following topic:

Do you agree or disagree the celebrities are paid too much money?

Give reasons for your answers and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

You should write at least 250 words.

Nowadays people have different incomes based on their jobs. Some people believe that some jobs are not paid fairly and people who have these jobs should not earn such that amount of money. A group of people whose earning is very controversial is celebrities. I think they should be paid very much because of the difficulties they have experienced in their life.

Some people believe that each person’s earning should be directly proportional to their efforts. For example, miners should earn the most because they have the most difficult job. Another group of the population has this idea in the mind that celebrities do not add value and are not useful to society. But it should be noted that celebrities can be responsible for several valuable events like helping to charity appeals all around the world.

On the other hand, a very famous person has a special lifestyle. They can not be with their family for many days. for instance, an actor or actress may be in travelling for several months to play a role in a film. Also, they do not ensure privacy. If a celebrity has a mistake, a large number of people will know about it immediately. I am a lecturer at the university. I have some experiences with this. I can not go on a trip without any stress about whether one of my students see my family and I and if they respect my privacy or not. Sometimes they come and ask some stupid questions about my life and disturb my wife and son. Another important thing is a large number of celebrities have a very special talent or put much efforts into their jobs. It seems they earn money easily but who knows how much attempts they have to improve their skills. David Beckham, a famous football player stayed every day and continue his exercise for one extra hour after the team left the field.

In conclusion, although paying celebrities too much for their abilities or talents has some negative aspects, they are paid for difficult situations they deal with every day and also for their very special talent or much work they have to do to be a star. It does not seem to be unfair.
