IELTS Task 2 Essay about 'family history'. Kindly evaluate and assign a band score

Some people believe that research into family history is useful for the next generations, while others claim that present and future are more important. Discuss both views and give your own opinion.

In this fast-paced environment, it is quite common that the youngsters do not care about their ancestry. Some people argue that knowing one's family past in important, while others believe that the present and future situations are the main aspects to focus on. This essay discusses these two different viewpoints in detail, before concluding to an opinion.

There are many benefits in understanding the history of a family, the most pivotal one being gaining knowledge about the ancestors. By learning about the hardships, their parents and grandparents had to face to nurture a good culture throughout the generations, children can be proud of themselves to be a part of such family. Secondly, natives who belong to elitist families, with a good cultural heritage, are the most respected among other countrymen. For example, people belong to ancient ruling families in some countries, always get good respect from other inhabitants of the society, all thanks to their forefathers.

On the other hand, some communities, where people are least bothered about the past, concentrate only on the present situation to engender their offspring. For example, in South India, there were some tribes, who were not allowed to have an academic education, because of caste discrimination in the early period. But the new generation from such civilization crave for good education and progression in their life, rather than following the same old culture of their families. It is irrefutable fact that education reforms the society. In addition to that, technology is so advanced in the modern world, that all are keener into the time ahead, than past. Most of us are living in an egalitarian society; unlike past century, now there is no differentiation among citizens.

In conclusion, even though, it is a good thing to learn about our past and pass it to the future generations, living in the present and focus on the future is more important.
