Some people think that environmental problems are too big for individuals to solve. Others believe individuals can also do some things to solve these problems. Discuss both views and give your own opinion

People have different views about how to tackle environmental problems. While some people consider that individuals is not able to resolve it alone, my firm conviction is that environment can be efficiently protected by the combined efforts of governments, organizations and individuals.

On the one hand, there are various reasons why many believe that environmental problems are hardly possible for each person to cope with. Firstly, the environment itself is a classic complex system, composed of multiple interacting factors, which affect all aspects of human’s life. Secondly, environmental issues, such as climate change, land degradation, pollution or the depletion of ozone layer, require the intervention of all members in society, especially government. These are so enormous that there is no simple way to adequately address it without strong commitments from the governments from different countries. As can be seen, nations leaders have been gathering together in a range of international conventions, seeking for agreements on the responsibilities of each country, marking global efforts in terms of environmental protection.

On the other hand, I believe that there are big responsibilities of every citizen in the process of saving our planet. Many small actions can be taken including, for example, walking or using public transports instead of driving cars to work; turning lights off before leaving the room or simply throwing trash into trash can instead of littering. Furthermore, educating people around about how good keeping the environment clean is to their surroundings and to their health; is also an efficient way in a long term.

To sum up, while governments with their strong actions could make bigger effects to resolve the issue, I am of the opinion that if individuals take small steps altogether, we can go further in the path of protecting our environment.
