Ielts Task 2. education/ online courses

Some universities offer online courses as an alternative to classes delivered on campus.
Do you think this is a positive or negative development?

Recently, as technology is becoming increasingly useful, many tertiary educations tend to replace offline classes with online ones. From my point of view, the demerits of this evolution outweigh the merits.

I belong to the school of thought that says learning through the internet may be detrimental to the students. First of all, students cannot completely interact with their classmates so that it can affect negatively their abilities to learn from their peers, which makes them rely fully on their devices. Besides, this also leads to the fact that it may lack rivals among the students in the educational environment, which is an important motivation source for them to keep working hard. Secondly, many students accessing a website at the same time can cause disconnection. Some students can miss knowledge and important information so that they cannot have a complete understanding about that subject.

On the other hand, I strongly concur that traditional classes are still more advantageous. There is no denying that regular face-to-face contact with their instructors in the classrooms can help them to easily improve, as the educators may know their students’ weaknesses and strengths so that they can help them to enhance and solve their problems. What is more, students can work together by interacting directly to complete an assignment more effectively, as teamwork can help them to obtain more ideas and they can enhance their negotiation skills by explaining their viewpoints, which is very necessary for some particular areas such as business or marketing…

In conclusion, because of some aforementioned drawbacks of online education, I firmly agree that traditional classes are more beneficial to adolescents.
