IELTS Task 2: Convenience food will increasingly prevalent and eventually replace traditional foods and traditional methods of food preparation. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this opinion?
These days, convenience food are growing in popularity, and it is predicted to replace accustomed meals and the way we cook. However, I strongly disagree with this statement because of some reasons.
The first reason why the traditional foods are irreplaceable in our meals is cultural values. Admittedly, the using of convenience food helps occupied people reduce large amounts of time of food preparation. However, this kind of food products is just a temporary method for a quick meal. In contrast, although conventional food includes many steps and needs longer time to prepare, the atmosphere and feeling of get-together to meal preparation in each family are indispensable to most of the people in many cultures. For instance, Vietnamese people are still happy to spend a few hours folding up Chung cakes and wait over half day for boiling the cakes until they finish. Therefore, conventional foods still play a significant role in our life.
Health problems are also another reason that convenience food can not become traditional meals. Food preservatives and additives in modern methods of convenience food production could be harmful to human health. In addition, canned products are usually produced as public taste and high in fat, sugar and salt, which is a leading cause to health problems such as high blood pressure, diabetes and obesity. Hence, it is obviously true that healthy food along with careful preparation in each meal are able to retain essential nutrients and vitamins, which is important for human body. Take the juice as an example. The juice made of seasonal produces with human preparation benefits health than the juice taken from food manufacturers.
In conclusion, it is undeniable that convenience food also has a role to play to some extent, yet totally replacing traditional foods and cooking methods is impossible for some reason as mentioned above.
