In many countries, more and more people choose to buy imported food rather than food produced locally. Why do people buy imported food? What could be done to encourage people to buy local food?
In contemporary society, a growing number of people have preference for foreign food than opting for local products in numerous nations. Reasons for this vary, and steps need to be taken to tackle this problem.
Local produce is not prior choice of a number of consumers because people have a tendency to try a variety of food from different countries. They are appealed to foreign specialities that are nationwide introduced on different means of media such as cuisine programs on TV, whichh make them have an insantiable hunger for imported food. For example, my sister has passion for Korean cuisine. It is hard for her to look for domestic ingredients that have the same taste as Korean ingredients. Therefore, she opts for imported products from Korean shops to be able to make truly Korean dishes and add to the daily meals for her family.
However, the problem is not intractable. The simplest measure would be that food produced locally should be constantly advertised on mass media. It is widely known that advertising is a great way to introduce and promote local produce to consumers, which stimulate their spending on domestic products. Admittedly, many people may ignore local food that are unpopular in market. Another remedy is that food companies should distribute local food to various supermarkets to encourage the public to choose these products. Such companies can offer consumers free samples or give them discounts of domestic products. Thus, people are willing to try local food and may decide to buy this. As a result, food produced locally are likely to become an alternative choice for family meals on a regular basis.
In conclusion, there are several reasons why peole opt to buy foreign food rather than local products. This problem can be handle by adopting aforementioned solutions.
