In many countries, the cost of living is rising. What problems will this cause for individuals and society? Suggest some measures that could be taken to reduce the impact of this issue.

The rising cost of living is a common phenomenon in most nations. Some effects stem from this issue, and solutions ought to be made.
A higher cost of living will heavily affect the lower class. Poor people spend proportionally higher on basic needs;
expensive food and housing prices will leave them with little for other needs. It is still common in developing countries where the eldest child gives up his plan of secondary education to work as another adult. Consequently, there are fewer people being able to get high-paid jobs and better education, which limits their upward social mobility.
Another issue is the increasing difficulty to start a family and have children. Even in developed nations like Japan, the cost of raising a child is astronomically high, more Japanese salarymen have come to terms with the fact that they will stay single and end up in a nursing home when they retire. This coincides not only with a higher rate of depression due to the lack of emotional support from family relatives, but also an aging population that will cause labor issues in the future.
To effectively relieve the negative effects of a rising cost of living, the government should increase funding on public services such as education and health care. This can be called income redistribution - government revenue will be allocated to the less wealthy members of society to ensure their economic stability and opportunity. Individuals can combat this issue by adopting a simple living or frugal lifestyle, which involves home-made cooking instead of dining out and avoiding lavishness or wastefulness.
In conclusion, the rising cost of living hinders social progress and widens income inequality. Both the government and individuals can partly tackle this issue.
