Task 2 - Causes & Solutions - #01
Topic: People today know fewer of their neighbors than in the past.
Why is this? What can be done to solve the problem?
In contemporary societies, gathering together in neighbors' houses during special occasions is no longer ubiquitous than it used to be. There are several reasons for this phenomenon, yet there are also solutions to tackle this issue.
One of the primary causes is that people are getting much busier than before, with either work or study. Taking a nine-to-five job as an example, it allots typical white-collar employees little nighttime for themselves. In some circumstances, people are required to work overtime so getting in touch with the neighbors becomes barely possible. Another factor leading to the problem is the burgeoning trend towards living in apartments in urban areas. The majority of apartment dwellers, by and large, tend to close their front door to maintain their privacy, as well as to prevent burglary. Consequently, the atmosphere seems subdued, which discourages people from building relationships with others.
To address this problem, residential management boards should foster better relations within the community by bringing in more shared constructions, like swimming pools, theaters, or parks. On top of that, encouraging residents to partake in community activities, such as music competitions in the area, is a good idea. Regarding the dwellers, they should endeavor to set aside time for residential bonding despite their tight schedules. This can be achieved as long as they grasp how important neighbors are in their lives.
In conclusion, both hectic schedules and life in apartments correlate with the increasing anonymity of the surroundings. Multilateral solutions need to be taken urgently, otherwise, long-term relations between neighbors will deteriorate. From my perspective, the main responsibility lies with both the heads of the neighborhood and the residents in creating a friendlier environment.
