IELTS Task 2: Can you give me feedbacks and maybe a possible band score too? Thank you!

Many elder people are no longer looked after by their families but are put in nursing homes. What are the advantages and disadvantages of this trend?

Retirement homes can be considered as an unique phenomenon of the 21st century as this concept emerged only in the recent decades. Although many see this as an innovative step in healthcare for the elderly, some argue that nursing homes may lead to the degradation of morality in the modern era.

Never before have the elders been granted such an easy access to health treatments of great quality like today. Even the upper class of the last century did not have this privilege as neither medicine nor technology had been advanced yet. Beside from receiving required therapies, the elderly also have their meals prepared as well as the chance to interact with people of the same age group. These are the basic necessities that retirement homes can provide while the offsprings are being swamped with daily workload and cannot properly fend for their aging parents.

It would be an oversight to claim that nursing homes are the ultimate choice for the old. Whilst possessing the ability to offer flawless physical care, these facilities cannot guarantee the sentimental fulfillment for their patients. There have been countless cases where the elders unwillingly register for a place at nursing homes due to the fact that their sons and daughters abandon them. If this became the norm, family bonds would no longer be rightfully appreciated and treasured. Our society, without doubt, would suffer grave repercussions from the weak interrelations between citizens.

To conclude, nursing facilities are built from genuine care for human physical welfare with the support of medical advancements. However, these homes are not the excuse for individuals to become ignorant to their parents. In my opinion, collective effort from both families and retirement houses is ideal for the well-being of the elderly as each shines in its own way.
