IELTS TASK 2: advantages and disadvantages

More and more work is being carried out by machines in all areas of our lives. What are the advantages and disadvantages of this development?

We are living in a 4.0 high-tech era where machines are established to multitask, not only in the workplace but also in domestic houses, that were previously done by humans. There are advantages to this, but I feel that it is also a risk and could lead to some challenges.

To begin with, some domestic equipment namely dishwashers and washing machines have made people's daily lives much less laborious and more comfortable. For example, these appliances have given people more freedom by allowing them more time to devote to leisure activities and also including high productivity is provided by these devices for doing household chores. However, this phenomenon has a major downside. People are depending on it too much and they become lazier than the past when the technological advance was obscure, unlike these days. As a result, people's health is going down and obesity has increased among all ages.

Another positive factor is that electronic gadget like tablets and smartphones have made working and studying easier. For instance, video-conferencing helps businesses and students in different sites or in different parts of the globe can contact each other rapidly by using computer technology. Conferencing video has enhanced the performance of different organizations through its efficiency and effectiveness, saving both time and money for businesses and, in this carbon-conscious age, by the reduction in the environmental cost of business travel from one corner of the world to another. In addition, students can attend online courses all over the world and achieving globally recognized degrees, which leads them to have better career prospects.

It is undeniable that robot in industrial zones have increased productivity and almost load is now done by machines, which has meant that more goods can be produced at a lower cost. Although this development is beneficial, they had led to job opportunities loss. Many jobs now are performed by automated processed instead of employees like the past, resulting in the unemployment rates has significantly increased nowadays.

In conclusion, machines have had a positive effect on our lives and consist of some important drawbacks that can not be ignored.
