Ielts task 2

Universities should accept equal numbers of male and female students in every subject. ?
To what extent do you agree or disagree??

Nowadays, education has become an equal environment for both genders to have the same rights and opportunities. Some people believe that the balance of men and women should be maintained in every subject at universities. Personally, I totally disagree with this idea.

At the beginning, having the same number of men and women on all courses is unrealistic.
Males and females are different in characteristics that suit distinct tasks so that some study programs are better to be applied for one sex. In reality, some courses are more popular with one gender than the other, for instance, some technical fields attract more males than females. This could lead to the result that the university has difficulties in recruiting students to have the same proportion of men and women.

Secondly, it is unfair for universities to base the admission on each gender. In fact, a person who is a male or female does not affect their ability to perform. Universities should base on their marks and qualifications rather than their gender as some people tend to be more deserving than others. In this way, both men and women have equal opportunities to pursue their dreams and achieve their goals.

In conclusion, this approach of having an equal number of men and women is illogical, and I believe that the admissions of any subjects should be based on the students’ merits and not involve gender.
