Some people think that sending criminals to prison is not effective. Education and job training should be used instead.
Do you agree or disagree?

Imprisonment is a popular method to tackle crime in almost all countries worldwide. It is argued that supplying people with more proper education is a better alternative. I strongly agree with this point of view.

The main reason why improved education and training are a more productive solution in resolving the crime rate is that it can alter people’s frame of mind from early on. In many parts of the world, people commit crimes due to their Jack of knowledge, in other words, they are incapable of distinguishing right from wrong and simply act by their instinct. For example, an orphaned child can snatch others’ bags on the street or rob the bank since there is no sound upbringing or parental guidance during his childhood. Therefore, a universal educational campaign teaching an ordinary citizen what is socially acceptable and what is not can instill a sense of morality and discouraging them from getting involved in illegal acts. By contrast, putting a criminal in prison does not automatically mean that they will not reoffend with after released as their habits are ingrained despite harsh penalties.

In addition, in many developing countries, many people are struggling against poverty and resort to crime as a way to cover their living expenses. Thus, free education would have a better effect as people are likely to be aware that they can learn a trade like being a mechanic or a boot polisher to earn money, and therefore become a Jaw-abiding citizen] in spite of their financial condition. This is definitely fairer than incarcerating and punishing them and destroying their lives without looking at the mitigating factors.

In conclusion, I totally believe that the provision of a better education can be a more advisable
option to reduce the increasing crime rate. This is because it changes people’s way of
thinking and helps the poor gain easier access to education.
