I'm Nham. I am self-study English. Please review my IELTS writing task 2.

Some people believe that crime is a result of social problems and poverty, other think that crime is a result of bad person’s nature. Discuss both views and give your own opinion

People have different views about causes of crime. While bad innate characteristics can probably result in crime, I believe that social issues and poverty are the main factors that contribute to the crime rate.

On the one hand, many people argue that innately personal characteristics decide their life of criminals. Firstly, a person who has aggressive behaviors such as animal violence tends to become a criminal more easily than a kind person. According to a prestige magazine, more than 80% of serial killers admit that they image about cruelty to animals before taking life from one person. Furthermore, some inborn bad characteristics such as laziness or selfishness can breed future offenders. As a shown in the report of International Youth Fellowship Organization, approximately 20% of students who regularly play truant break the law when they grow up.

On the other hand, I would support the opinion that starvation and social issues are root causes of committing a crime. First of all, people are at greater risk of being criminals when they are unemployed. Clear evidence for this is that the crime rate rose up to 20% during of recently worldwide economic crisis period. Another striking cause of crime is poverty. An illustration of this is a heartbreaking story about a prisoner in ABC. He stole a gold ring from his neighbor because he had no money to buy medicines for his seriously ill daughter. Apparently, a person who do not have enough money to make ends meet resorts to crime.

In conclusion, it is reasonable to believe that people’s nature leads to crime, but it seems to me that root causes of crime are problems of society and poverty.
