Ielts task 2

Currently there is a trend towards the use of alternative forms of medicine. However,as best these methods are ineffective, and at worst they may be dangerous. To what extend do you agree with this statement?

There has been increasing interested in alternative medicine for people’s health treatment. Opinions are divided on whether it is better to using alternative remedies instead of conventional medicine. This is a complex issue and my belief is that both have distinct advantages, but alternative methods are more inefficient and risky than scientific methods.

There are several reasons why the alternative medical community chooses it is their best method. The first reason is preventing illnesses before they occur. It helps encouraging people to have more awareness about their health. For example, using gingers everyday can be beneficial for digestive diseases. The second reason is convenient and cheap of natural methods. People often believe in recommendations from friends so it’s easier to find remedies from their house or garden. In addition, alternative therapies were made from natural plants so it is cheaper than conventional medicine.

On the other hand, there remain strong argument for the use of alternative. Firstly, there has been little scientific research into such medicine, so there is a scarcity of evidence to support the claims of their supporters. Furthermore, most alternative medicine methods are not approved by any governing body. Specially, there are not any health insurance companies that provide coverage for them. Moreover, alternative medicine can not intervene in emergency cases like car accidents which require immediate pain relief and instant action or surgery.

In conclusion, although there are some advantages to take alternative method, I would argue that it has some ineffective and risky side effects.
