Topic:
Because computers can translate all languages very quickly and accurately, learning a foreign language is a waste of time. To what extent do you agree or disagree?
Nowadays, advance technology, specifically computers and Internet can do many tasks to help us in our daily life, including communicate to foreign people by translation system. Therefore, some people argue that it is time-consuming to learn a new language. I completely disagree with this view because I believe that there is always obvious benefits of learning a language.
On the one hand, computers is only a machine and they do not always translate accurately the content which users want. Almost software such as Google is only translate word by word, without considering of context. As a result, translation machine can not convey exactly what people mean, even leading us to some ridiculous situation of misunderstanding. Besides, people also can hardly show their expression by words and gestures in a natural way and relying on a machine makes the other uncomfortable in their conversation and hence can not communicate effectively.
On the other hand, learning a language is not only about how to use it fluently but also learn about their culture. In the journey of learning, we will gain more knowledge and discover many interesting things in others countries such as their cultural identity, custom, history, and so on. Furthermore, the process of learning and conquering a language is much more exciting and meaningful than just relying on a machine because people can not feel the sense of one language.
In conclusion, computer can help us in some ways of communication but can not replace our natural ways of speaking and prevent people from learning a new language.
