Question

The line chart provides the information about the average quantity of students from Vietnam learning in 3 different nations from 2000 to 2015.

Overall, the majority of the countries underwent an upward trend in their student numbers, while solely Russia had its number of Vietnamese learners go downward over the period.

In the year 2000, there were 3 million Vietnamese learners in France, which is the highest number among the three countries. Russia and America’s values were respectively 3 and 1.5 million. Over the next 5 years, there was a decrease by nearly 1 million in both France and Russia’s quantities, while America’s rose by 0.5 million.

From 2005 onwards, the quantity of Vietnamese learners in France dramatically rose and reached 5 million learners at the end of the period, regarded as the most signifcant value at that time. The value of France remained stable from 2005 to 2016 before growing to 4.5 million in 2015, being higher than Russia’s by 2 million units.

Overall observation (body paragraph 1):

Overall, the total number increased over the period by almost 50%, from 8 million in 2000 to 11.5 in 2015. It was not a continual increase as it had dipped to between 5 and 7 million between 2004 and 2008. Most of the increase occurred after 2010 when the numbers rose in all three countries.

Particular observations (body paragraph 2):

The proportion of the students in the USA started at about 18% of the total, (1.5 million), but the numbers increased steadily, reaching 5 million, or nearly 45% of the total in 2015. The numbers in both Russia and France declined between 2000 and 2010, a 40% drop in Russia from 3 to 1.8 million, and lesser drop of about 28% in France, from 3.5 to 2.5 million. Although the numbers in all three countries rose after 2010, they rose more steeply in France and the USA, at a rate of 0.4 million per year, as compared to 0.14 in Russia. In 2015, the number in Russia was less than it was at the start, at about 20% of the total, or 2.5 million.
