My report:
The chart compares the number of trips made by children aged from 5 to 12 in one country in the year 1990 and 2010 when commuting to school using five transport methods: car, walking, cycling, walking and bus, and bus.
Overall, while the number of trips on car increased, the opposite was true of the other means of transport.
In 1990, walking was the most popular method as there were more than 12 million trips to school, followed by bus with approximately 7 million trips were made. The numbers of trips made by students cycling, walking and using bus were around 6 million, whereas that of car was only just above 4 million.
In 2010, the number of walking trips dropped dramatically by half to 6 million. Similarly, the number of walking and using bus trips went down by half to about 3 million, and that of cycling fell by 3 times to 2 million. Meanwhile, the number of trips by bus declined slightly to around 5 million. In contrast, the number of trips on car soared to 11 million.
