The line graph compares the renewable energy consumption of four different sources including hydroelectric, wood, biofuels and wind in the USA between 1949 and 2008 in Quadrillion Btu.
Overall, total amount of renewable energy consumption increased during the period. The amounts of wood and hydroelectric power were fluctuated, while biofuels and wind consumption has rapid rise at the end of the period.
In 1950, people in USA consumed about 3 quadrillion btu of renewable energy. Wood and hydroelectric power were used with amount of approximately 1.5 and 1.4 quadrillion btu respectively. Over the following 31 years, there was an increase to 2.6 in the consumption of hydroelectric, whereas the amount of wood used in the period rose more slowly, from 1.5 to 2.2. In 1981, biofuels and wind energy were started using.
Between 1981 and 2010, the total consumption of renewable energy continued climbing up to nearly 7 quadrillion btu. The amounts of biofuels and wind consumption energy increased rapidly from 0 to 1.4 and 0.6 quadrillion btu respectively. At the same time, hydroelectric power consumption fluctuated between 2.2 and 2.6 quadrillion btu, while the amount of wood consumption decreased slightly from 2.2 to 1.8 quadrillion btu.
