The table provides information about expenditure on various commodity in China, Thailand, Japan and Vietnam in 2008.
As can be seen, “Fast food / Drinks” was the most popular group among 4 countries. The opposite was true for “Leisure activities/Education”. Especially, Chinese consumed the biggest proportion of all category in 2008.
Turning to the detail, the percentage of spending on “Fast Food and Drinks” in China was much higher than other countries, at 29%. Whereas, less than 20% budget of Japan, Thailand and Vietnam was used for this category. Unsurprisingly, Vietnam - one of the healthiest countries in the world - had the lowest spending on “Fast food and Drinks”.
In comparison with “Fast Food and Drinks”, the proportion of expenditure on “Shoes/Watches” was much lower in all four countries. Apart from China - the country spending much their income on these products with 16.23% - expenditure on “Shoes/Watches” in the other countries were quite similar, at under 6%. In group “Leisure activities / Education”, Vietnamese consumed the largest proportion at 4.35%, while the smallest figure belonged to Japan, with only 1.98%.
