The provided line graph illustrates the percentage of the New Zealand population divided into four age groups starting from 1950 and the predictions to the year 2050.
Overall, it is evident that the population of New Zealand has the tendency to become aging. Particularly, the group of 35 to 64 years old has witnessed the most significant increase throughout the period.
At the beginning of the survey, the group of 15 to 34 years old ranked top, followed by children from 0 to 14 years of age, with the percentages of 31 and 29, respectively. While these figures of two remaining age groups staying at the bottom of the survey were pretty low. 15% for individuals between the ages of 35 and 64, and 10% for those 65 and above. However, in the year 2050, the graph witnesses a reverse scenario. It is predicted that the group of 35 to 64 years old will experience a surge, thereby surpassing the age group of 15 to 34 to claim the highest position.
Throughout the period, there has been some fluctuation. The population of 15 to 34-year-old, in particular, peaked at 45% towards the end of the 1980s before declining steadily. Furthermore, the proportion of children under the age of 14 has dropped significantly to 10% and has remained at the bottom, while the proportion of 35 to 64-year-old people has witnessed a doubled increase, reaching 20%.
