The tables show the amounts of money made from selling fairtrade-labelled coffee and bananas in millions of euros in the years 1999 and 2004 in five European countries namely: the UK, Switzerland, Denmark, Belgium and Sweden.


Overall selling fairtrade-labelled coffee increased in all 5 countries over these 5 years. However, fairtrade-labelled banana sales grew in Switzerland, the UK and Belgium while it dropped in Sweden and Denmark.


Sales of fairtrade-labelled coffee in the UK experienced a huge rise of 18.5 million euros in 2004, compared to 1.5 million Euros in 1999. The sales of the same product doubled in Switzerland and marked 6 million euros in 2004. Denmark, Belgium and Sweden showed a slight growth in terms of selling fairtrade-labelled coffee in the year 2004 compared to the numbers in 1999. The sales of fairtrade-labelled bananas had a significant rise in Switzerland, the UK and Belgium, changing from 15 to 47, 1 to 5.5 and 0.6 to 4 million euros over this 5-year period, respectively. In contrast, in Sweden and Denmark the numbers fell noticeably to approximately half of their previous amounts in 2004, became 1 and 0.9 million euros, respectively.
