IELTS or ESL

Hello everyone. What is the difference between IELTS and ESL? Which of them is more useful? What are the instances/situations that require either or both?

Top answer

IELTS is a language proficiency examination. ESL is a term for the study of English as a second language, as in a course or program. As such, the two terms are not comparable.

Thank you for your answer. I was confused. I was advised to take IELTS when I mentioned my desire to look for a job overseas. Then ESL was added into the equation. Hence, the question. Thanks again.
