Essay:
People’s lives are now surrounded by advertisement. This affects what people consider important and has a negative impact on people’s lives. To what extent do you agree or disagree?
Advertisements play a key role in each and every aspect of our lives. It is often argued that ads affect the thinking of people in terms of importance of things and have a negative influence on people. I completely agree with this view.
First, when companies advertise their products or services, they entice potential buyers to consider them regardless of their requirement. This means, companies make people to think that whether they can afford or not, their products are necessary and will keep them happy. As a result, people get trapped by their creative ads and buy the advertised things even by taking loans. Nike, for example, targets their high-cost runner shoes to children by advertising on various TV channels. It is because they know that children will most probably force their parents to buy them shoes despite knowing that they are expensive.
Another reason that advertisements have a negative influence on people is that they publicize things as a status symbol. In other words, many organizations compel buyers to think that they can create great impression on others if they can afford and purchase their products. Thus, they will be considered affluent and will be regarded as happier than others. Most Canadian graduates, for instance, tempt to buy cars even by taking auto-finance loans when they join their first job. It is because they see TV commercials that those who own a car are wealthy.
In conclusion, advertisements develop people's perspective on things and have a detrimental impact on their lives. This is because many entities advertise products as a symbol of status and entice buyers to have it without thinking about affordability.
