Some people prefer to spend their lives doing the same things and avoiding change. Others, however, think that change is always a good thing.
Discuss both these views and give your own opinion.

How to spend our life is a right we are given when we become an adult and this decision is key to our happiness. Consequently we will always have a mix of people in the world of some who prefer routine and security in their life, and others who need variety to ensure the spice in their life. This essay will consider both these views.
Whether people living a repetitive life is justified or not depends on the reasons why. People need routine and direction in their lives. Without it, many become lost souls. In addition, it is understandable that many feel secure doing something they are familiar with on a daily basis and therefore avoid change. Often in fast-paced modern society, there is little free time. The convenience of, for instance, knowing exactly where to find groceries for cooking or a tool for fixing the broken shower we can all appreciate. To some extent if people are genuinely content with life as it is and are loving life’s journey, we may ask, why change? However, if this stable life is due to fear of change, then questions need to be asked.
We all know the saying ‘Variety is the spice of life’. Boredom normally exists from repetitive routines, but changes are what keep life experiences fresh and enjoyable. A good life can be argued to be determined by how many great stories one has when one is in his/her later years. A variety in careers, lived locations and sights seen can certainly tick the boxes there. Consequently, wisdom and a huge array of skills can also be gained. Moreover, it is healthy to keep the brain active by providing it with different daily challenges, which has been scientifically proven to lower the chances of dementia.
In summary, clearly the decision of which way to live is better is all down to the individual and what suits their personal character and desires in life. Fear is what stops many living life to the maximum. As long as this does not impact on a person’s decision, then there is no reason why we cannot all live happily. So, next time you hear of someone who has stuck at a career for forty consecutive years, question whether they should be admired or not!
