IELTS essay : parents should take punishments for the crime of their children
Question: Some people believe that parents should take punishments for the crime of their children. To what extent do you agree or disagree.?
Answer:
Perhaps no subject in the contemporary society is as controversial as the matter of punishment. It is commonly believed that parents should panelize their descendants when they commit faults by punishment. As opposed with this statement, I strongly hold a belief that punishment, especially corporal punishment, is a common way to regulate children’s behaviours regarding committing crimes. However, abusing corporal punishment can lead to physical and mental harm which I will brief in the following paragraphs.
We should first recognise that corporal punishment is a facilitation of physical harm. The case is true that when children commit crimes, their parents are willing to use a spanking which is regarded as a discipline for education. However, the boundary between discipline and abuse is impossible be well-defined while their parents unable to control themselves when getting angry. Eventually, children suffer some inevitable outcomes including cuts and bruises.
Apart from it, psychological damage is attributed to physical punishment. It is evident that children who undergo a constant physical punishment experience a wide range of emotional harms such as depression, anxiety, losing their own sense of happiness and anti-social behaviours. The teaching method requires children to put all of their attempts to complete things under their parent’s permission. It makes children face a lot of adversities in exploring new things and creative individuals. Therefore, if children are punished, they will fail to escape from the loss of emotion.
In the light of aforementioned facts, parent should not abuse punishment to penalised their children when they commit crimes. To avoid inevitable outcomes, some other methods like taking away their children’s hobbies of bringing them to re-education camp that are effective ways irrelevant to physical punishment.
