IELTS essay on single-sex schools. Kindly review

Essay:

In many countries today, parents are able to choose to send their children to single-sex or co-educational schools. Some people think that children going to single-sex schools have disadvantages later in life.

To what extent do you agree?

Parents have the option to either take the admission of their children in single-sex schools or ones which provide education to both boys and girls. Some of them believe that their children may suffer later in life if they are provided education in single-sex schools. I completely agree with the view.

Pupils who do not study in co-educational schools lack confidence. They feel shy and nervous when they are asked to interact with the opposite gender because of lack of confidence. When they enter a high school, where usually both boys and girls study together, they struggle to communicate with each other. Girls of Dhaka, the capital of Bangladesh, for example, prefer to study in primary schools that do not give admissions to boys. Their parents normally complain that they hesitate to communicate with boys in their families due to confidence issues.

Another drawback is lacking discipline among children who study in single-sex schools. That is to say that they use inappropriate words and misbehave more when they get education in single-sex schools. In other words, co-education teaches manners to pupils, and how they should behave to others. Although the unavailability of opposite genders make them comfortable in studying, they struggle to bring discipline in themselves. Many young boys of The Trinity School, the largest catholic school of India, were suspended because of using slang words with teachers. It was found out that they would not have misbehaved if there had been girls in the same school.

In conclusion, while many parents have the choice of educating their children in co-education or single-sex schools, many of them believe that co-education is better. This is because co-education brings discipline and self-confidence in children.
