Some employers want to be able to contact their staff at all times, even during the holidays. Does this development have more advantages than disadvantages?
Many organizations operate their business, regardless of holidays, throughout the year. A few of them want their employees to remain in contact despite the holidays. The benefits of this, higher salaries for employees and higher growth of the company, greatly outweigh the drawbacks.
When people work in their holidays, they bring two main benefits. First, they receive higher perks and benefits from their employers as they compromise their personal life for the sake of office work. Since they are available for work in their vacations, they demand more money. The Google, for instance, awarded special bonuses to its employees who worked over the weekends in the year 2018. Its another benefit is that the companies will continue their growth path as all the staff members will be available. In other words, their employees will be putting extra efforts that would increase their revenue and profitability. In 2017, for example, Honda Atlas sold more cars in Japan than its competitor, Toyota Motors. The reason was all the labors of Honda Atlas were working throughout the year.
Admittedly, there are some minor drawbacks for people who give priority to office work during their holidays. The first disadvantage is that they would not be able to spend time with their families. That is to say that they might not be able to maintain work-life balance and their personal relationships may suffer due to this. The primary reason of divorce in Australia, for example, is that both spouses do not spend enough time with each other, according to a survey. Second, people suffer from stress as they fail to manage their personal life due to office work in their vacations. People relieve stress when they share things with their family members or friends. Since they remain occupied in work, they suffer from various ailments, such as hypertension and high blood pressure.
In conclusion, although people fail to spend time with their families and suffer from stress, I think that the advantages are greater than the drawbacks.
