Topic: Some people think that museums should be enjoyable places to entertain people, while others believe that the purpose of museums is to educate. Discuss both view and give your opinion

People have different views about function and role of museums. In my opinion, today's museums should serve both educational and entertaining purposes.

On the one hand, the fundamental role of museums is clearly to educate people. To build a museum, governments together with a host of archeologists, scientists and other relevant experts have to research and collect a wide range of artifacts and specimen. Besides displaying such tangible items, museum management staffs also have to hire professionals to give interpretation of the exhibits to visitors, with the aim to impart knowledge to visitors. In a history museum in Da Nang named Cham Museum, for example, hundreds of sculptures and photos displayed combined with tour guide narration give audiences a deep understanding about culture and lifestyles of Cham residents. The similar educational role can also be seen in other types of museums such as natural history museum, art museum, open air museum and so forth.

On the other hand, enjoyment has also become the key purpose of museums. In modern world, the amount of knowledge people absorb everyday is huge, so the best way to learn would be making knowledge more interesting and lively. Many museums today therefore have integrated various entertaining activities to their visitors' visit journey such as passionate storytelling, music performance, or interactive games. For instance, in Cham Museum, attendees start their visit by watching live an engaging dance performance through which they could easily imagine how the traditional values and customs of Cham people really were. Without those enjoyable activities, visitors would find museums boring places, deterring their excitement of going to museums to learn new things.

In conclusion, I believe that museums have both educational and entertaining roles to play to maximize visitors' satisfaction.
