IELTS ESSAY

I would appreciate it if you could kindly give me some comments on my essay !

Nowadays animal experiments are widely used to develop new medicines and to test the safety of other products. Some people argue that these experiments should be banned because it is morally wrong to cause animals to suffer while others are in favor of them because of their benefits to humanity. Discuss both views and give your own opinion.

Animal testing has been playing a crucial part in the development of medical science and the determination of safe products for quite a long time. Although many people are of the opinion that these experiments should be prohibited due to moral issues, I still agree that this kind of research needs to be carried out for the benefits of humanity.

On the one hand, there are certain reasons why experiments on living creatures are considered morally unacceptable. It is obvious that these researches may put the animals in the extremely painful conditions or even to death. For example, thousands of laboratory mice are sacrificed every year with the hope of finding cures for deadly diseases such as cancer and Alzheimer. Animal testing also supports the view that human beings have the right to exploit other creatures in the animal kingdom to serve their own purposes. Such ethical violations whose results cannot always reflect the accuracy on human’s body are considered as unnecessary.

On the other hand, conducting research on some animals for common interests of humanity actually has its own merits. Thanks to this kind of testing, the process of finding cures for many illnesses has been significantly speeding up. For instance, laboratory mouse can multiply quickly which helps scientists do their research constantly. Moreover, it is worth acknowledging that advanced as nowadays medical science is, we have not yet found any better solutions for testing and developing new medicines besides animal experiments. Provided that people stopped using animals for doing medical research, any other viable ways would definitely encounter financial difficulty.

In conclusion, despite the violation of morality in animal experiments, I still hold the view that they should be carried on for the advantage of mankind. (288 words)
