Some people think that men and women have different qualities. Therefore, some certain jobs are suitable for men and some jobs are suitable for women. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

It is true that some people still believe that women and men are born with different qualities which determine certain types of jobs for them. However, I disagree with this point of view, and I would argue that men and women should have equal chance at any jobs in this modern world.

On the one hand, individuals usually choose their career path based on many factors and personal characteristics may be the most significant one. In terms of physical strength, people tend to think that men are physically stronger than women. Therefore women are not encouraged to become manual workers, and we can see that there are more men work in construction sites or drive heavy trucks. There is also believed that women are not suitable to dangerous jobs such as joining army or being police. In terms of traditional gender stereotypes, females are considered as more sensitive and thoughtful than males, so they are more likely to enter professions such as nursing or elderly care.

On the other hand, in order to adapt to changes in modern workplace, I believe that there is no room for old-fashioned thinking towards the capabilities of women and men. Firstly, people should consider the fact that a better education has given boys and girls the same opportunity to gain knowledge and experience. As a result, there is no reason to say that females are not qualified for a job since they can get any required educational qualifications, and women can reach the top in their chosen field if they work hard. Secondly, keeping outdated attitudes may adversely impact company in particular and economy as a whole because hiring employees based on their gender may lead to a lack of good workers. For example, men can be better than women in taking care of children and elderly or women may be a better driver or police than men.

In conclusion, sex discrimination should not exist in workplace, and women and men should have equal right to pursue their career.
