IELTS essay

Dear teacher, would you please help me check this essay?

Task: Nowadays, more and more older people who need employment compete with the younger people for the same jobs. What problems this causes? What are solutions?

Answer:

Recently, the intense competition between older and their young counterparts in labor market has become a major topic of concern. This phenomenon exerts a number of negative impacts on society and must be tackled by effective measures.

Firstly, due to age discrimination, young people tend to suffer more from disadvantages in seeking a job. It is recruiters’ perception that young candidates often lack essential experiences which can be gained through the number of working years by older people. Therefore, despite having similar qualifications and abilities with senior counterparts, young people still fail to impress their potential employers. In addition, the dominance of aged employees may lead to productivity stagnation. The elderly seem to be inflexible in adapting themselves to high-technology equipment. Consequently, their working style will remain backward, which can be attributed to a poor performance.

However, there are some measures the governments could take to mitigate this issue. One of the most feasible solutions is to decrease the legal retirement age of employees. By this way, young people may gain more opportunities in their career path. Besides, increasing the pension rate is also an ideal option for this issue. Since the retirees receive a sufficient amount of retirement compensation for living, they may not found their involvement in job market necessary anymore. Finally, to alleviate the competition between young and old workers, the government can also implement some policies to create more jobs for its citizens. This can be done by attracting international enterprises to invest in its country with additional incentives.

In conclusion, the rivalry between young and older job seekers produce various effects on society and approriate steps should be taken to address this problem.
