IELTS ACADEMIC TASK 1: The table below shows what percentage of foreign tourists to a British tourist attraction came from different regions of the worls in 1989 and 2009 as well as the total number of tourists who visited in each year.

The table compares the proportion of tourists from five different continents and the overall number visiting British tourist attractions in the year 1989 and 2009.
Overall, British holiday attraction was visited the most by the Europeans, while, South America stayed the lowest during the two years period. It is also noteworthy that the total number of tourists increased dramatically in 2009.
As can be seen from the table, only a minuscule amount of South America (4%) came to British for holiday, which was the lowest of the year 1989, coming second was The Middle East with 8%. Meanwhile, Europe was 11 times higher than South America with 44%, making it the highest.
In the 2009 column, even though there was a decrease to only 31% in the number of Europeans visiting British tourist attractions but it remained the highest. As for South America, the number stayed the same (4%). Despite the decrease in the other three continents, Asia doubled from 13% to 26%. By the end of 2009, the total number of tourists was higher than in 1989, at respectively 731,455 (2009) and 362,020 (1989).
