Air pollution is proven to be detrimental to not only the individuals but also the community. Although I agree with the idea that international car-free days can help alleviate the problem, I still think it is not enough since we should combine other solutions at the same time.

On the one hand, some people argue that worldwide car-free days contribute to relieving the adverse effects of air pollution. First of all, the rise in the amount of carbon emissions produced by cars and trucks is likely to cause air pollution. These kinds of machines which may produce relatively small quantities of air pollutants can cause significant damage to the surrounding atmosphere if used in large numbers. Therefore, when this policy is carried out, travelling in urban areas worldwide relies on public transport, walking or cycling on certain days, which would have tremendous effects on improving air qualities. Meanwhile, it is obvious that government should attempt to reduce the burning of limited energy sources to fuel traffic vehicles. When people consider these sources as the main provision for electricity production, transportation, home heating and industrial production, then the entire infrastructure of most industrial countries may change.

In conclusion, although there are some reasonable arguments for foreign car-free days, I believe that they would not be an effective method to discourage people from polluting the air.
