In some parts of the world, children are expected to study for a long time in and after school, instead of having more leisure time. Although it is true that this tendency can be beneficial to some extent, I would argue that it brings about more drawbacks.
On the one hand, encouraging children to spend more time studying in and after school can be advantageous to certain aspects. To begin with, since students focus on studying extremely, they would have more chances to broaden their knowledge in a wide range of study areas. For example, by spending more time at school, children could accumulate academic knowledge in many subjects such as Math and Science. When they get home, they could improve their self-study skill by learning new subjects that are provided through online courses such as Communications, Design. As a result, children might become comprehensive and get flying colors. Furthermore, by achieving better academic results thanks to studying hard, children would get a job which earns great money and carries high prestige in the future.
On the other hand, expecting children to spend full-time studying without giving them enough leisure time can lead to inevitable consequences. Firstly, because of studying too much, children might be under a lot of pressure. Thus, this has several negative impacts on youngsters' mental and physical health such as depression, eating disorder, binge eating disorder. Secondly, spending more time studying in and after school but less time for leisure activities could not provide kids the sense of enjoyment in life. For instance, children might not have an opportunity to spend time making new friends or doing their hobbies as a way to relieve their stress after a nerve-racking time at school. Consequently, this would affect children’s growing mindset, they might not know the meaning of life.
In conclusion, while expecting kids to spend more time studying and cut down their leisure time offers certain merits, I am of the opinion that its disadvantages are far more significant.
